Homeopathic Psorinum uses in Pets

Psorinum is a homeopathic remedy that can be used for pets with conditions associated with a PSORIC miasm: (1) Diseases of the skin and glandular swellings. Nervous, restless animals who are easily startled. (2) Psoric constitutions; lack of reaction after severe diseases. (3) These animals emit a very foul, disagreeable odor. (4) Sickly, delicate young. (5) Young peevish, unhealthy-looking animals, who have a disgusting smell about them. (6) Dirty animals in whom the body has a filthy smell which no amount of washing can remove. (7) Animals subject to diseases of the glands and skin; and who have had eruptions suppressed by conventional drugs.

Treatment with Psorinum is indicated in Chronic cases when well-selected remedies fail to relieve or to permanently improve (such as in acute diseases under a Sulphur prescription ); also when Sulphur seems indicated but fails to relieve.

Psorinum should prove useful where there is eczema accompanied by irritation and itching. Affected areas of skin may appear red, raw and produce a foul smelling, mucky discharge that irritates the skin.

  • Seborrheic dermatitis, chronic ongoing
  • Eyes sticky, inflammation of the eyelids
  • Chronic conjunctivitis
  • Cracks and scabs at the corner of the mouth
  • Red raw sticky eczema with irritation affecting the ears
  • Foul-smelling saliva
  • Chronic catarrh
  • Sticky mucus in the throat
  • Foul-smelling stools with mucus and blood
  • Breast, Udders swollen and painful
  • Difficulty breathing with dry hard cough
  • Severe itching, Equine sweet itch
  • Recurrent URTICARIA
  • Equine mud fever and other skin conditions, including those around the hoof and coronary band
  • Moist sticky skin eruptions
  • Poor hoof quality, cracked, dry flaking hooves

  • The chief keynotes of Psorinum are: Lack of vital reaction; prostration after acute disease, depressed, hopeless.
  • Emaciation and foul body odor may accompany it.
  • "Foulness" may be considered the second keynote of Psorinum Eruptions which have offensive discharges; the odor, is horribly offensive.
  • The diarrhea is profuse, watery, dark brown, and even black, and is putrid-smelling like rotting meat.
  • One great mark of distinction between Sulphur and Psorinum is that the Psorinum patient is exceedingly CHILLY, even in summer; while the Sulphur patient is predominatingly HOT.
  • Psorinum animals feel the cold easily and often want to be covered up on even relatively mild days.
Remedy Interactions

Works well with and is complementary to:
Sulphur, Bacillinum (acute), Sepia, Tuberculinum.
Also consider: Sulphur, Nat mur, Lycopodium, Graphites, Calc carb, Petroleum
In lack of reaction compare: Calcarea and Natrum ars.
Incompatible with: Lachesis, Conium

< Worse for changes of weather, hot sunshine, from cold, touch; pressure (truss of, bandages, etc.); rubbing; scratching; blow; fall. Dread of least cold air or draft.
> Better for, heat, warm bedding, even in the heat of summer.

Dose: 30c to 200c Potency. 200th and 1M potencies should not be repeated too often. Note: Psorinum should only be used for up to five days before changing to another remedy. Psorinum requires something like 9 days before it manifests its action, and even a single dose may elicit other symptoms lasting for weeks (aegedi.)

Potency & Repetition of Nosodes

Usually in Homoeopathy the more obvious the mental symptoms are, the higher the potency, but when using Psorinum a lower potency would be used if marked pathological symptoms were more predominant to the case. But between these two extremes use 30th potency - when there is a combination of an acute and chronic state. Eg. in chronic bronchopneumonia, skin disease, etc.

The number and doses of the chosen nosode can be determined only by clinical observation and experience. The higher the potency chosen the less frequent the repetition and number of doses. After a dose of appropriate nosode for the case, considerable benefit may follow with the use of a remedy chosen from the list of complementary remedies, given in a low dose (6c potency) for a long period of time.

Psorinum is classified as an animal NOSODE

How is Psorinum Made?

The Psorinum nosode is made from a scabies (contagious mites) discharge. The fluid from the blisters or vesicles on skin infected by scabies forms the source of this homeopathic medicine, which is considered to be one of the most effective remedies in many skin problems that do not respond to other treatments. Homeopathic potencies of Psorinum are made by trituratiion (grinding thoroughly) of the secretory matter with lactose (sugar of milk).

Common Name: Scabies Vesicle
