Worm Yellow

Food Supplements:

Raw Pumpkin seed (50% kill of Dipylidum, a tapeworm that can live in the small intestine of dogs and cats due to fleas). Dosing Example: Give 1 teaspoon to small dogs and cats, mixed into a meal. For medium size dogs give 2 teaspoons, daily mixed into a meal. For Large breed dogs give 1 Tablespoon daily mixed into a meal. Tip: Use a coffee grinder (not a mill) to grind the seed. Store the powdered seeds in the freezer, in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid. This will keep the seeds fresh and from becoming rancid.

Fresh Raw Garlic has a natural sulphur in it that helps repel fleas and acts against round worms. Dosing Example: Give once daily. Cats and small dogs,1/4 small clove minced into the food. Medium size dogs, 1/2 clove, minced into the food. Large breed dogs,1 medium size clove, minced and mixed into the food. If your animal tends to get dry red eyes, garlic might make this situation worse. An alternative would be Cabbage which is also helpful for its sulphur-containing properties and does not redden the eyes. Caution: Do not give to animals who are taking blood thinners. Do not give to pregnant animals. Do not give to anemic pets, puppies or kittens or those who have Heinz body anemia.

Natural unsweetened, plane yoghurt helps restore beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal tract. Small dogs and cats 1 or 2 teaspoons, given one time daily, mixed into a meal. Medium size dogs, give 2 1/2 teaspoons daily, mixed into food. For large breed dogs give 2 or 3 Tablespoons daily, mixed into a meal.

Anti-Tape-Worm Recipe:

2 cups canned pumpkin
1/4 cup raw, finely ground pumpkin seed
1/2 cup of wheat germ
1/4 cup blackstrap molasses

Mix together and then mix well into food. Dosing Example: Give once a day for two days. Small dogs and cats, 1 to 2 tablespoons; medium size dogs, 4 tablespoons, large breed dogs, such as a Great Dane, 3/4 cup.

Herbal Supplements:

Berberine-containing herbs (Coptis, Oregon grape) for Giardia use papaya. Dosing Example: Proportionally to the directions on the label.

Wormwood: This is a relative of Mugwort and sage, is helpful in roundworm infestation. It is a very bitter herb that increases intestinal and uterine motility, so it must not be used in pregnant or nursing animals. Dosing Example: Use the tincture, mixing 9 drops to 1 ounce of water. Then give 1/2 - 1 1/2 teaspoons once daily for up to 14 days. Because of its bitter quality, some animals may foam at the mouth when you give it to them.

Diet: Controlling the amount of fats and sugar in the diet helps to reduce the food items that worms thrive on. Some doctors recommend a diet of boiled fish and oats to weaken worms.

Health tip:
Animals with healthy immune systems and proper absorption are not plagued by chronic worm infestations. If your animal tends to get worms, frequently, work on strengthening the immune system with acupressure, performance herbs such as Astragalus, Oats, or Alfalfa, or lymphatic drainage herbs such as Echinacea.
